where polls show the president still has a slim lead. mr. obama is here in the battleground of virginia hunkered down with top aides, undergoing debate preps with governor romney on tuesday night at hostra university in new york. the president was highlighting the success of american auto makers in the wake of a government bailout. governor romney opposed using government funds to help the auto industry. those auto makers are an entry critical, of course, to ohio. >> i bet on american workers and american ingenuity and three years later, that is paying off in a big way. together, our auto industry created a quarter of a million new jobs here in america. >> the president will stay here in the battleground of virginia until tuesday when he flies to new york for that second presidential debate. a lot of democrats pushing him to be more aggressive than he was in the first one. this time, it will be a town hall format with undecided voters. he has to be careful not to be too negative. a tough balancing act as the democratic party wants to see the president stop what republicans are calling
